About Stacey:
Stacey Vanek Smith is a journalist and podcast host highly regarded for her insight and reporting on work, business, and economics. She is known for bringing clarity, insight, and wit to the stories shaping our economy. Stacey is a columnist for Bloomberg Businessweek, cohosts the podcast Everybody’s Business from Bloomberg Businessweek, and is special correspondent for public radio’s Marketplace.
Previously, Stacey spent more than a decade at NPR, where she was a correspondent and host for Planet Money, founding host of The Indicator from Planet Money, and NPR’s Global Economics Correspondent.
She is the author of Machiavelli for Women (Simon & Schuster, 2022), which explores the pay and promotion gap women and people of color face — and how to navigate them. The book features conversations with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, screenwriter Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians), and Michelin-starred chef Niki Nakayama.
A native of Idaho, Stacey grew up in Boise and on her parents’ cattle ranch. She’s a graduate of Princeton University and Columbia Journalism School, and has taught audio journalism at Princeton, CUNY, and Columbia. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Stacey is the recipient of The Ferris Grant at Princeton University in 2019.
